Ball Drilling
& Fitting

The right ball means nothing if it doesn’t fit your hand. Our custom drilling service is where equipment becomes an extension of your game — measured precisely, drilled with purpose, and finished to perform from your very first throw.

Your Grip Is the
Foundation of Everything.

Every element of your game — your release, your rev rate, your axis tilt, your entry angle — starts at the point where your hand meets the ball. A grip that doesn’t fit undermines all of it. You might compensate without realising, gripping too tight, rushing your release, or never fully letting the ball roll off your fingers the way it’s supposed to.

At Fastlane, ball drilling isn’t a commodity service performed in three minutes behind a counter. Steve or Jeff takes the time to measure your hand properly — span, pitch, finger size — and then asks the right questions about your style, your game, and your goals before a single hole is touched.

The layout we choose affects how the ball transitions through the oil, how early it reads the midlane, and how aggressively it makes its move at the breakpoint. Two identical balls drilled differently can perform like two completely different pieces of equipment. We treat that decision with the seriousness it deserves.

Whether you’re picking up your first reactive ball at a center in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, or anywhere in Ohio, or you’re a tournament competitor optimising your fourth piece, every drilling job at Fastlane starts from the same place — understanding your game first, then putting the drill bit to work.

Drilling Done
The Right Way.

Every drilling job at Fastlane follows the same thorough process — from the first measurement to the final finish. This is what you get every single time, no matter which ball you bring in.

01

Full Hand Measurement

We measure your span from thumb to middle and ring finger, your bridge width, and your individual finger diameters. These numbers drive every decision that follows — no approximations, no skipped steps.

02

Grip Style Consultation

Conventional, fingertip, or a hybrid approach? We ask about your current grip, how it feels, and what you’re trying to achieve with your release. If your current style is limiting your game, we’ll tell you — honestly.

03

Custom Layout Selection

Pin position, VAL angle, and mass bias orientation are all chosen based on your rev rate, axis tilt, and the oil conditions you most commonly face — whether that’s the house shot at your local Ohio center or a sport-pattern tournament.

04

CNC Precision Drilling

The actual drilling is performed on professional-grade CNC equipment for accuracy you simply cannot achieve with a handheld drill. Every hole is placed exactly where the layout specifies — not approximately, exactly.

05

Insert & Slug Fitting

If you use finger inserts or a thumb slug, we fit and install them as part of the drilling process — selecting the right material, texture, and size for your grip style and personal preference.

06

Final Fit Check

Before you leave, you put your hand in the ball. We watch the fit, ask how it feels, and make any minor adjustments on the spot. You don’t leave with a ball that doesn’t feel right. That’s the standard.

Walk In With a Ball
Walk Out Ready to Throw.

From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, here’s exactly what the drilling process looks like at Fastlane — no surprises, no rushing.

01

Tell Us About Your Game

Steve or Jeff asks about your average, your delivery style, and what you’re hoping this ball does for you on the lanes you bowl.

02

Hand Measurement

We take precise measurements of your span, bridge, and finger sizes. Every number gets recorded before we even think about a layout.

03

Layout Decision

We select the pin position, VAL angle, and mass bias placement that matches your release profile and your target oil conditions.

04

Fit Check & Out the Door

You try the fit. We confirm it feels right. Any final tweaks are made on the spot. You leave with a ball that’s ready to perform.

Your Ball Bag
Has a Strategy Problem.

Most bowlers buy balls they love in isolation — a great skid-flip reaction here, a smooth mid-lane arc there — but never stop to ask: do these balls actually work together as a system? Do they cover the right range of conditions? Are there gaps? Redundancies?

An Arsenal Consultation fixes that. Steve or Jeff sits down with you and every ball you own, analyses the complete picture — core specs, surface textures, layout angles, your personal rev rate and axis tilt — and builds you a clear, written game plan for how to deploy each ball effectively.

“The goal isn’t to sell you another ball. The goal is to make the balls you already have perform like a complete, coordinated system.”

You’ll leave knowing exactly which ball to reach for on heavy oil, medium patterns, drier conditions, and broken-down late-game carry-down. No more guessing on the approach. No more watching your ball skid through the pins and wondering why.

Whether you bowl in a Thursday night league or compete in USBC-certified tournaments, understanding your arsenal at this level is one of the fastest ways to raise your average — without buying a single piece of new equipment.

Is This Service Right For You?

Custom drilling makes the biggest difference when there’s a real mismatch between your current grip setup and what your delivery actually needs. If any of these sound familiar, this is the service for you.

Before vs After

Every Ball Drilling & Fitting session focuses on precision and performance. Nothing is rushed. This isn’t a quick adjustment — it’s a detailed, professional fitting process designed to match your grip, style, and game for maximum comfort and control.

Before Proper Drilling

  • Gripping the ball too tight because the span or pitch feels slightly off
  • Releasing early or late without understanding why it keeps happening
  • Thumb hole that’s slightly too loose or tight, throwing off your timing
  • A layout chosen at random — or copied from someone with a completely different game
  • Ball motion that looks nothing like the reviews you read before buying
  • Finger soreness or fatigue that you’ve accepted as normal

02

After a Proper Fit at Fastlane

  • A grip that feels natural from the moment you pick the ball up
  • A cleaner, more repeatable release because the fit stops fighting your hand
  • A layout that matches your rev rate, tilt, and target conditions
  • Ball motion that behaves the way the spec sheet said it should
  • Less physical tension through the approach and into the release
  • Confidence at the line — because you know the equipment is doing its part
